OUR STORY
Bad Basketball…Great Idea

The seed for Queen City Q was planted on an outdoor basketball court in South Charlotte over bad passes and missed lay-ups with the #SCLThoops crew, a group of guys who met through social media and get together to play ball and have a few laughs, mostly at each others expense. One of the players, Bryan Meredith, had recently been downsized and with his wife, Sue Johnston, began looking into several business opportunities.

Bryan approached fellow hoopster, Craig Utt, a restaurant marketing entrepreneur, about some restaurant possibilities. One recurring topic was a mutual love for great BBQ and the lack of it in Charlotte. The next thing you know, the Q opened three months later. Three months after that, the editors of Charlotte Magazine named us best BBQ in their annual BOB Awards.

Aside from creating award-winning BBQ, some other important reasons for opening were to create jobs to help boost the local economy and to support charities we believe in. We’re very proud to employ over 50 people and feel its our duty to give back to our community through organizations like Second Harvest Foodbank of Metrolina, Share Our Strength’s Taste of the Nation and many other great charities. As a partner of the Charlotte Knights, Charlotte Checkers and Charlotte Hounds, we’re also proud of the company we keep.

We’re grateful to have you as our guest and hope you enjoy Queen City Q.
